Summer Trending

I've been on the hunt for everything summery, boho, middle eastern and reminiscent of the clothes I used to love to pick up at the open markets in Tel Aviv as a teenager. (Shook Ha'Carmel in the city's center was filled with Bedouin jewelry and embroidered caftans).

Channeling that theme, I've been prowling about LA trying to reconstruct my childhood faves. Here are a few I highly recommend to give your wardrobe a little Middle Eastern flair! Above, Asos's cotton skirting shown here on sale!

Once again, I adore palazzos. Here's another great pair by Billabong from Lulu's. At only $39.50 these are a total steal!

I found some amazing scores at Zara, including Moroccan style, red palazzos and beige, ultra billow-y flares which I wore last week, Moroccan style. You can find the printed pants in two colors here.

Feeling like a retrospective...

I recently went to see the Herb Ritts retrospective at the Getty Museum in Bel Air. The photos of the those 80's models reminded me of the iconic imagery I loved as a kid. Helmut Newton, Herb Ritts, Ellen Von Unwerth, and many others like them were the chief influences of my teen-hood. Returning home from the show, I immediately put on a funky, retro pantsuit and felt myself channeling an 80's tear sheet.

Don't misunderstand, I'm not comparing myself to those great photographers bevy of uber models. I simply mean that in putting on a leggy, white, "onesie" (for lack of a better phrase) I feel a bit like a fashion, time traveler. And there's always going to be a fun element to playing revival dress-up!

Moroccan Style Shower Garb

I had the wonderful privilege of attending not one, but two showers this past Saturday. The first was a baby, and the second, a bridal. The baby shower was themed as a Moroccan style event, and everyone who attended came in clothes befitting the day. (See the amazing photos at Tanya's blog here at November Grey).

Fortunately and throughout the years, I've accrued some amazing jewelry and hardware from travels back and forth to Israel, and this past weekends' event seemed like the perfect time to layer all those pieces together. But after the baby shower's exotic theme ended, I had to fly to my next stop, a bridal shower "high tea" in Beverly Hills. So what do you do when you have to quickly cover up without time for a clothing change?

Simply remove the belt, tuck in the shirt, and add a snazzy, little jacket. And it's on to the next party!

Fourth of July Theme Continued

July 4th Dress of Choice

Happy, post 4th of July! Here are a few quick shots of the festively colored, holiday dress I wore out over the holiday to do... absolutely nothing. Bliss!

There was so much marine layer the morning of the 4th that I actually needed a jacket in July. Go figure.

Happy 4th of July Friends! Today in addition to enjoying a lovely, (and well earned) beach day I'll also be giving away not one, but two, LWD's, (little, white dresses)!

Pre-4th of July Inspiration

Happy "Pre-4th" Everybody!

 

This morning I was feeling a little red, white, and blue inspiration as I headed out of town for the day with the Hubs. In anticipation of the oddly placed, Wednesday holiday, I pulled out a recently re-vamped, vintage dress I had reconstructed last year. 

Over this little concoction, I mixed some vintage, drapey necklaces, which I also love to rock as bracelets.

I had re-cut this dress from its original, maxi length to an elongated mini and revamped the shoulders, but I also added a little bow-tie detail in the front. Very Hepburn-esque...

A little, red clutch and red lips and I was feeling festively appropriate. Getting into the groove early is always fun. I can't wait to pick out the "real" holiday outfit.
