Mom: My Style Icon

Every woman who loves fashion and beauty has a style icon. When polled, women cite Coco Chanel, Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and so many others. But my style icon has always been my Mom.
Just look at her 16 year old self in an up-do with pencil skirt and giant sunnies! In Poland, and later in Israel she was looking so boho/chic and flower-power pretty.
These are my favorite images of her. Rocking some fabulous, boho patterned maxis. I swear our DNA is hardwired. I am truly her daughter...
They say everything in fashion comes back around. From the boho top to the maxi denim, to the cognac boots, Mom's rocking it all.

With Love, (to my Mom)

Black Halo Dress Debut

I bought this Black Halo dress last year and had planned to wear it on my 5 year wedding anniversary. However, as our plans ended up changing it wasn't the right venue for a snug, LBD.

Cut to my cousin's black tie wedding in New York last weekend and suddenly I had the perfect opportunity to take it out for a spin. It was incredibly fun to get dressed up with my family and see our entire clan decked out in style. Mom in black lace, my sister in BCBG Runway, and me in a form fitting, architectural dress and Edelman heels,
I had spent the morning helping my sissy shop for a new dress, heels and jewels, and man, did she look smashing! Here she is with my brother in law in his custom tux. (Yours truly learned how to tie a bowtie the previous morning to help him complete the look).

There's never a moment when you can't turn to a Little Black Dress, no matter what the occasion. It's the ubiquitous item that will always come to the fashion rescue!

Doors and Legacies; Amsterdam

Back in the States after a whirlwind trip, I've been reminiscing about Old Amsterdam's amazingly preserved architecture. Aside from walking in the Jordaan and seeing the houses literally leaning over the canals, I'm was taken at the mere sight of fabulous doors, windows and walkways.
But of all the walkways and doors I passed, this one was the most significant. This is the door to the Anne Frank Haus, the front entrance that led to the warehouse above which she and her family hid for over two years before being discovered and taken away by the Nazis. Going into this incredibly preserved piece of history and seeing her original diaries and notebooks I was so moved and shaken that it was all I could do not to cry. But what moved me further still was watching the 2.5 hour queue form behind me down three city blocks to visit her room. Her legacy will never be forgotten...

On a lighter note, as I walked through the old Jewish Quarter I happened to pass this other door. It's the very first, (and only) European Out of the Closet and it just opened it's doors in Holland. Of course we had to go in and check it out, and we found an amazing, vintage Art Deco tin just waiting to be snatched up.

So many doors, so little time...
