Countdown to the Holidays!

Happy Thanksgivukah!  For those of you who haven't heard, Chanukah has coincidentally fallen on Thanksgiving this year. It's a once in a millennial kind of thing, and it will not happen again for thousands of years. That said, I'm really looking forward to today's prepping of my upcoming, Thanksgiving feast. And more importantly, still debating and deciding on recipes that blend seasonal flavors with Chanukah dishes.
I've got my trusty tote in tow, as I'll be shopping for a few last minute, place setting ideas and decor.
A big, bucket bag is great for stuffing recipes, pretty little decorations, and maybe even some dreidels. I've gotta get this all up from LA to SB and as soon as possible!
Once again, my flirtation with flannel is proving to be highly effective for work. It makes wearing a pencil skirt cozy and casual.
Pragmatic flats for the last ditch, grocery run.

And it's off with the clock on countdown to two, simultaneous holidays!

Winter Wonderland

I had just purchased this sweater last week, and as soon as I stepped out of my apartment, my neighbor exclaimed, "reindeer, how cute!"
I don't know why I found this comment especially funny, as I happen to celebrate Chanukah and not Christmas. But whether it's a seasonal reindeer, or just your run-of-the-mill, stately moose, I love this print. (In fact, I love all animal prints on clothing)...
...As does my neighbor's puppy, who loves getting in on the action. (Particularly in the form of a photo bomb).

Cozily Prepping to Shoot

This morning is literally the first time in almost two weeks in which I haven't woken up between 2:30 and 4:00 AM to shoot. Luckily my call time today is a teeny bit later and for the first time in days, I'm up with the sun!
Practicality is still the rule on set. Got my ASH boots on for pure comfort, some printed denim, and a logo-esque, soft sweater.  Little chandeliers give this simple style some femininity.
In truth, the easiest thing to grab when I want to feel cozy yet still a little trendy is a print or a single image. Today it's both.

And it's off to the grind! Happy weekend All!

Flannel is the New Black

It's official. Flannel is the new black. Or rather, flannel is the reemerging mainstay of comfort clothing right now. And it's never been cuter! No longer are we limited to tartan plaids or grungy greens. Now the palette is showing up in hues of grey, black, maroon, pink and taupe. Hallelujah! Fashionable flannel!
On a particularly chilly Santa Barbara morning I matched my latest find with my softest, suede and cotton, two toned, black leggings.
An ethnic choker, some well loved and well worn riding boots, and a hat I chanced upon in downtown SB made me feel polished yet completely casual.
Top: Passport, Pants: BCBG, Boots: Nine West, (Old) Clutch: Mossimo

Some days it's just easy. And this top is so soft and comes in a variety of colors. I found mine for under $20 at Marshall's, and you can find them at Marshall's as well as TJ MAXX here.

Celeb Style: Orange Blazer

Whenever I find myself in a temporary fashion rut, I make an inspiration board. It's a process I used throughout my fashion design program, as well as in every design showroom I worked in. Sometimes culling together images of what you like helps you to reexamine what's missing in your wardrobe.
Recently I snipped this photo of Louis Roe in a tangerine blazer and leather harem pants. I absolutely LOVE the juxtaposition. Then I suddenly remembered the jacket that's been lingering in my ETSY store for some time. And as it happened I had just purchased pleather harem pants a couple of weeks ago. I liked Louise's look so much that I searched for other images of her and found a second example of her rocking an orange blazer. Done. I think I found a way to combine the two looks in one.
In the early morning I wore this top and pants to set with biker boots and a heavy sweater, but when I returned home and was ready to change out for dinner, I replaced the sweater with the oversize, orange jacket and Dior heels.
Blazer: Vintage, Heels: Dior, Pants: Piper, Top: BB Dakota

Forgive the flash. The days are getting shorter and I'm working into the wee hours. But at least I can still find time to snag some celeb style!

Airplane Mode

This past week I traveled to the east coast and got a little taste of home, (and winter weather). When I flew back I was reminded that LA is experiencing the most gorgeous, warm, fall weather with unusual highs. So how do you transition back from a morning of sweater layers and highs in the 30's, to sunny heat?
Keep the jeans and tall boots, but strip off the sweater and sub in a sheer, loose top.

So happy to be back!

LBD Via TA

Can a gal ever have enough LBD's? I myself own a reasonably well rounded, two dozen or so"little black dresses" of every shape, hem, length, and fabrication. This one is a personal favorite which I picked up in the trendy, Tel Aviv fashion district.

The dress is constructed with a series of ruched seams on the sides, the shoulders, and the back. The result is that not only is there a hidden "hoodie" in the back as well as a moveable neckline in the front, but there's also a variable hem that goes from a mini to a full maxi length. Basically this dress can become anything. But I'm wearing it as a slim sheath today.
I particularly love that the neckline can go from plunging in the back, to a squared off front, to an off the shoulder cut.

(Ruched arms too)...
Dress; Yosef Casual, Boots: L.A.M.B., Necklace: JewelMint, Bag: Sandro

What style will your next LBD be?

The Best of Budget Denim: Cheap. Jean. Chic.

When it comes to denim, we all have our favorites. From Rag and Bone, Genetic, J Brand and Diesel, every designer has something special to add to the jean mix. But at $150-$300 a pop and up, sometimes trying out a trend in denim can result in sticker shock. Which is why today I'm bringing you not only my favorite "cheap" denim brands, but reviews of each of them as worn here on the blog. Each of these jeans retailed between $19.99-$39.00. Not one pair of jeans worn below even broke the $50 cap!

1: ASOS:Grommeted Denim
I love my side studded jeans from ASOS. This season they've updated the look with an even hotter pair in waxed denim, which you can grab on sale here for only $21!! (See below).

2: H&M Jeans: Snake Print Embossed
A well worn favorite. You can nab the fall update to these babies for under $30 at H&M.com here.
.

3: Vigoss Jeans: Dark Distressed
These dark, distressed skinnies are still available on sale at Nordstrom here. I loved them so much I bought two pairs, as each will wear, (and tear) a little differently.

4: Just USA Jean: Colored Skinnies
These boutique distributed jeans can now be found on Amazon here, where you can choose from a range of colors and fall styles. My pick? Deep olive skinnies for fall's camo trend, and a return to the 80's with an updated, acid wash in cranberry, available here. Styles range from $15-$38!
And now, here are my current faves trending for fantastic denim!

Metallics:
For the holidays, sparkle in bold metallic hues. I nabbed my Rich and Skinnies in the spring and they're even hotter now for winter! Try this copper skinny jean on sale at ASOS for $35 here.

Embroidery:
Another winner for me is F21. I've worn my F21 skinnies almost every time I have errands to run or set work to go to. But not only do they make great, distressed denim for $29 and under, they're rocking some Isabelle Marant style embroidered  jeans too, for about a 20th of the price! I bought this pair and have matched it to every top in my closet! It's my new, favorite, cheap-chic piece!
You can nab them for under $28 here! In addition to the great fit and detailing, I love the slightly higher waist.

Zipper Ankle Denim:
From H&M, the original cheap-chic king, we have the most fantastic, quilted and zippered, grey denim. At under $40 for great detail work and a totally hip color, this one's a no-brainer! Nab it before it's gone here.
Whatever your denim default, you can find it now for a great price. So go test a fun new look. You and your wallet will be happy you did.

With Love!
